I got a 2009 Washington DC quarter today in change today in really good shape. When I was looking at it I thought this is the 1st time I have received one of these in change. I have seen older ones and newer ones come my way, but Never this particular one. I noticed there were only 88.8 mil. minted compared to 240-250 mil.per in 2008. With over 88.8 mil. minted where are they all? Are people hoarding all of these? This one also appears to be slighty MAD on both sides. Thanks...Mont Edited by MontCollector 04/14/2017 01:17 am

I've found a couple of those in the past few months (both being lightly circulated) but anything dated 2009 seems to be hard to come by. I haven't checked the numbers but, I'm assuming low mintages across the board during the recession.
I don't know why anyone would hoard clad coins and Zincolns, though. I've come across several 2009 cents but, they are also few and far between. Of course, I'm really looking for the 2009 copper cents.

Can't say I see this one in pocket change at all. But then again, I mostly use debit card in public to my personal disgust. Unless I am a unique consumer, I suspect that our current era coinage will have a high survivability rate due to being made of a durable copper nickel alloy and because most people use debit cards for nearly all purchases. I think you will be able to find this coin in pretty much the same condition 20 years from now if coins are still circulating then unless our economy debases metals even further.

Quote: unless our economy debases metals even further. I think they've already done that with zinc cents. Quote: our current era coinage will have a high survivability rate due to being made of a durable copper nickel alloy That's as true as it has been and why we have '30s nickels floating around. Again, I think the Zincolns are a harbinger of things to come. It would be better if they had chosen aluminum. That all leads me to to believe that cent coins are on the chopping block.

Don't ask me, in 8 years I've seen five of them, one each from four of the territories and one duplicate. All of the 2099 coins are seldom seen. I've seen five cents (2 LP1, 2 LP2 and 1 LP3) no nickels, no dimes, and no dollars.

out of all my quarters which I have been saving for years, I only have 3. I just recently coin collecting. Now I wished I hadn't turned in $800.00 worth of quarters before looking at them. Is there a reason why 2009 is not around?

I watch for 2009 BU quarters, both in circulation and at the local coin shops, and do not see that many. At one point I bought all the BU 2009 quarters a flea market seller had. With six different 2009 quarters the mintage for the first one Wash. DC was 88.8 mil, by the last one Northern Mariana Islands the mintage dropped to 35 mil. for the P and 37 Mil. for the D. I have to wonder if a lot of them were shipped to the territory they commemorate? With these mintages they will be available, but as more and more rolls get dumped into circulation, it might get harder to find BU examples. Even Copper nickel coins get wear. For me I will put them away (BU coins) when I find them. Not a hoard ... but some of each.

GR58, from son of the auction sites I frequent, those rolls of yours would bring in megabucks! In 10 years or so, quite the investment. Think 2009 P's & D's were all screwed by the 4 part Lincolns, and 5-part Washington's... both nickels AND dimes are hard to find as well. Think I've found 6 or 7 2009P nickels out of 58,000 searched.

The 2009 Mint Uncirculated and Proof sets are on my list. Was gonna get them for the Lincolns but now it looks like I have another reason to get them.

Where are all the 2009's? I don't know, some dude going by "Gold Rush" is the go-to guy if you need a fix. He looks like this:

I pick up the 2009 mint set cents whenever I can get a deal. A lot of times buying out the inventory of a dealer to get them at a discounted rate. Sitting on about 4 rolls of each at this time. Every one is in it's own airtite.
