Two graded examples- going to crack out of holder for my Dansco. I like the 1853 example the best but what do you grade these in your opinion?

Like the darker 53, better eye appeal, 51 has "appearance of cleaning? Think AU50 are accurate for both

I also prefer the second to the first. The first coin has unsightly rim damage in the reverse and what looks like graffiti in the gaps between STATES OF AMERICA. Agree they look like low AUs.

The 1851 has some porosity on the reverse and rim issues, and it has been cleaned at some point. The 1853 is a much more attractive coin.

Probably just the photo, but somehow the '53 looks granular to me. I prefer the '51.
