I am also working on my 7070, but its going to take some time, maybe longer than I would like.
Anyway Barry, after looking over your 7070 collection several times, I am impress with you digital collection as I had look at it since the first time. I would preferred that the coin qualities be further balance if it were mine, that just my opinion.

You already have the most amazing collection I have ever seen Barry! I would just shop for something new. Your type set is A++++++++ already.

Barry, your digital album is outstanding! There's always room to upgrade, but you're just going to be replacing already great coins for an incremental improvement. I'd go the route of looking for the best pre-1800 coin within your budget. The hunt will be more exciting that way, too!

Thanks for all the advice! I think I will try to upgrade the following two coins: And then I'll look for one "special" coin I can spend the rest of my money on.

Good choices. The capped bust Half Dime you could also do better for very little money.

Quote:The capped bust Half Dime you could also do better for very little money. You're probably right. It's hard for me to get overly excited about Half Dimes, to be honest, since they are so small I can barely make out the details even with my reading glasses on. And then, when I photograph them for my digital album, all their flaws appear massively accentuated...

You should be able to get both of those coins in the mid-upper AU range for about 4k. That leaves you 1k for something else that is fun. The problem, even at a big show, is actually finding them. I find that I am lucky at a show to even find one of the more expensive coins on my list available in the grade/price range I am looking for. If eye appeal is not there, I will still go home empty handed or buy some miscellaneous cheap things. At my last attended show in the Detroit area, I picked up a Proof 1883 With Cents Liberty nickel in MS66Cameo (PCGS). It was on my list for a few years, but this is the first one I saw at a show that I really liked. In any case, of whatever you buy.

All right, I'm back from the show and, as promised, have some pics! I ended up not being able to pull the trigger on a single high-value coin, but I got some decent upgrades and a few new coins as well. And so, without further ado... Upgrades: [ Seated Liberty quarter with Arrows and Motto (No Rays)] [ Seated Liberty half dollar with Arrows and Motto (No Rays)] [ Shield nickel (No Rays)] [Capped Bust Dime (Type I)] [Classic Head Large Cent] New Coins: [Liberty Cap Half Cent -- I may end up upgrading this down the road, but I wanted one for my type set.] [A surprising amount of detail for this grade -- I was originally not planning on going any lower than a VF, but this caught my eye and I like it.]

I need that Classic Head Cent for my album! LOL
The 16-D dime must have cost you upward of $800-1000.

Quote: I need that Classic Head Cent for my album! LOL Yeah, I think this is the fourth one I have owned. I'm not sure I can afford to find a better example, so this one will have to last me. Quote: The 16-D dime must have cost you upward of $800-1000. "Upward" is right! I toyed with the idea of spending all my money and getting a better grade for $4000 or so, but I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. This one might not be investment grade, but I'm actually very happy with the detail and overall eye appeal. And spending "only" $1400 let me get the rest of the stuff I bought.

The date on the Classic cent appears to be a 1810 over 09, but is too dark to tell for sure what's under the 9.
