"... the obverse shows wear on the crown and cheek. nice coin"
Thanks! It cost me all of $3.

Do you collect this series? It would be good to know other NFLD collectors to trade notes.
Something I especially look for in the obverse are the faint jewels on the crown band which is the first wear surface on the obverse, and many XF coins have lost this detail. Comparing this coin to many graded ones on Heritage, I'm pretty certain the obverse is AU--in fact I have an ICCS AU55 with less band jewel detail/more wear. The reverse shows a little more wear, however I have seen differences in leaf/flower detail even in AU cents that could be due to strike?

Overall, I'm comfortable grading this a XF45+.
As an FYI, here's a photo showing some coins ranging from XF-MS grades. Note the leaf surfaces and strike details of the flower on the pitcher plant--despite the grade which Heritage provided (which do correlate well to the obverse portrait): MSRB, MSRB, AU, MSRB (weaker reverse strike), XF, AU (cleaned).
