I have a 1936P-1DO-001 and a 1955P-1DO-002 that I have decided to have graded and I have a few questions. I also have a 1962 DDO on a ragged planchet and I'm really lost on where to send this, being a variety and an error.

Who is the best company to send these to ?

Would it be to my advantage to have Wexler's attribute the coins and then send to be graded with the results of the attribution ?

Will they even grade a variety on an error planchet ?

Maybe I should have posted this in the grading forum but you guys are the error/variety experts and probably have the most knowledge on this subject.

Thank you for your help.

I haven't ever sent a coin in to a TPG, but for whatever it's worth, it seems to be that ANACS is the "friendliest" about varieties and errors.

This may be a good question to ask in the TPG forum.

Especially on the bogus planchet. And I agree with Oijogja, put a link to this thread over on the TPG forum. Don't start a whole new topic or it will become redundant.

PCGS will mark it as a variety, but of course it will cost a little more. I don't think you'll need a formal attribution; just pointing it out to them in the description should do. This is true with ANACS, too, but I've no idea re: NGC.

If it's not AU or better, I would not send it to PCGS (I have 2 raw ones in the VF range that are not worth submitting). It will cost you at least $50 per coin, which would be half of the value of the coin. The 1955 would have to be very high MS to even consider.

At least ANACS is a more affordable option. You may want to wait for one of ANACS' special promotions where you can get coins graded for $10 or even less. But you may want to wait until you have 5 or so coins to send as sometimes there is a minimum. Also, sending 2 coins in as an order is not worth it shipping cost-wise, unless it was a high-value rare coin.

Here are the images of the DDO on a ragged planchet.

The "55" and "36" are regular DDO's.

Thanks for the information on the TPG forum. Didn't know there was one. Lots of good information there. Appreciate the replies.
