Hi all, My first coin post. I am being offered $2000 to purchase this coin. I do not know the real value of the coin, nor its authenticity. Can an expert chime in and let me know if this is a good buy? Thanks Robin

Wow, thank you for the quick responses. Can someone elaborate more on why you feel this coin is not authentic? Thanks

This is a cast copy. The surface looks uniformly grainy. Also, the coin has raised rims which is a feature of coins that came much later.

I would unfriend the person who offered this and consider reporting them to the authorities. S/he can sort it out with the authorities if s/he didn't know it was fake.

100% fake, run!
Also tell coins owner it's a fake, they may just not be knowledgeable and have no idea the coins a fake

FAKE! The indicators of it being counterfeit to me are primarily that the date is way too big, "Liberty" is too spread out on the obverse, and the coin has an overall blurriness of details (indicative of a cast copy). Welcome to the CCF!
You were smart to come here with your question. Your coin is undeniably fake. The grainy-cast appearance is the first give-away.
Scroll through the CCF Forums and you'll get smart fast! There are a number of fake coins (just like yours) people have asked for help about before buying them.
Good luck in your search!

I want to thank everyone for their feedback and insight on this. You saved me $2000. Lol. I have pictured below a coin I purchased from the same person selling the Liberty coin. I only spent $20 on this Morgan, but now I question its authenticity as well after all this. Let me know what your thoughts are on the Morgan. Thanks again.

It's pitted on the obverse and the hair seems too detailed given the dark toning of the coin. Also it would be helpful if an admin could rotate the photos. I can only tilt my monitor so far. To make thinks easier, can you post a link to the sellers ebay store? It will save a lot of time.

Hi Mike, The seller is a co worker of mine who buys lockers on the side and found a hoard of coins in one of them.
