Four Small Cobs And A Bust 1/2 Reale

Erba New Member Netherlands 22 Posts	Posted 05/02/2017 10:01 pm Hi all. I came across four small denomination cobs and one 1/2 reale 1776 bust that is in decent shape. Any info on the cobs would be great. One is pretty worn and I think is the oldest (1 reale). Two 1 reale cobs have obvious denomination and date and the 2 Reales cob shows an assayer R (or TR?). The 1700 looks like it has a horizontal '8' instead of two zero's. All seem to be Potosi mints. Edited by Erba 05/02/2017 10:05 pm Report this Post to the Staff

Erba New Member Netherlands 22 Posts	Posted 05/03/2017 8:58 pm Well, I did a bit of research on the webs and could find out some things about the cobs (except for the really worn one which I didn't get anyways). Please correct me if I'm mistaken. The 1776 1/2 real weighs 1.65g diam 17.1-17.2mm and shows 180* overlap on the edge which I find quite remarkable for such a small coin of that age. The 1772 1 real weighs 3.28g diam 17.2-20.3mm and should be assayer V (although not visible) Carolus III. The 1700 1 real weighs 3.57g diam 20.8-24.9mm and should be assayer F, Carolus II or could it be an assayer Y, Philipus V ? The 2 reales weighs 6.86g diam 23.2-24.5mm assayer is R which could eighter be: Alonso de Rincon, 1573-1576, Philip II or: Baltasar Ramos Leceta, 1590-1615, Philip III I guess an expert could tell us more.
