Receive today this chunky Ptolemy III Tetrobol. Pictures doesn't do justice to this coin, it looks a lot better in hand. Ptolemaic Kingdom Ptolemy III Euergetes (Benefactor) 246 - 222 BC Tetrobol 40mm x 47.8g x 12h Epsilon mark between eagles legs. Alexandra mint Refrence: SV-974 E var. Plain series 4.

This coin had quite a bit of verdigris that obscured the reverse details. I did a little restoration and removed most of the verdigris to reveal the detail. Found out that the mark is not and Epsilon but a C instead. This mark is known but not listed in Svoronos.

?: Why do Ptolemaic bronzes have center dimples in them?
I have heard several plausible theories, but nothing conclusive.
