Wish I knew . I am quite comfortable seeing it on the Quarters in particular but also on the Dimes. I am not seeing what I usually see on them. I don't look at enough nickels (just what I get in change) to be able to tell the difference.

I hear that a lot CC, I've said it myself a few times. I think it's comfortable saying it. The hard cold fact is though, the anomaly doesn't discriminate by denomination. It manifests itself the same way on all coins. What gets me with this one, it's in a recess on the die. You usually see it in the fields. I'm starting to think now, this recess is pretty close, if not the same height as the field. I only look at quarters from change, but I found a nice Spike Head quarter I think you'll like. I'll be posting it soon.

Above the dome on the left side, what you are seeing is during a die polishing, the machine lower that edge of the die. So when this happens, it shows as a raised area on the coins. Kind of like the halo you see on Kennedy halves then too much field is removed around the bust. Something like this, but just affected one area. There may have been a little more of a clash there they wanted to remove or die damage?

I see what you're saying Coop, thanks. Now I'm thinking it's all from polishing, all the high points on the die - the windows and under the building too.

Well, that is good that it is related to die polishing. as I metnioned above Quote: I am quite comfortable seeing it on the Quarters in particular but also on the Dimes. I am not seeing what I usually see on them. Then that means that I really am learning, yay! I really like that halo effect, it is quite striking when looking at the whole coin. It is glowing. You gonna keep this yep (I think you should).

I agree CC, you are learning very well. I think just about everyone on here is a student and a teacher. Anywhere from advanced college degrees to the second grade.

Quote: You gonna keep this yep (I think you should). I meant to tell you I sell all but a few of my coins. Most of my collection is in pictures. Just about all collectors and experts in one way or another make money off of the hobby. Even just finding a coin with value increases ones assets. The way I see it, when I go to my next post, I won't be able to take the coins with me. I wouldn't want to leave them to someone that wouldn't know what to do with them, so I keep the pics and spend the cash because I can't take that with me either.

So true. I am trying to get my 2 boys interested in the hobby - but they pretty think I am nuts and being teenagers they have more important things on their minds. They sometimes call me the penny lady but anytime they get or find change they bring it home knowing it will make me happy.
