Would like some opinions on this coin. Is it silver plated, counterfeit, struck on wrong/foreign planchet? It does not ring like a normal silver coin would. It has a specific gravity weight of 9.1. I suspended the coin in water on a string and it weighed 1.47 grams. I divided the weight of the coin with the suspended weight of the coin in water, that is how I got the specific gravity. Wanted to know if this is anywhere close to this being a silver coin, although I have my reservations. Reeding is white all the way around the coin. Your guess is as good as mine. Thank you for the responses! Here are pics.

I may be mistaken, but I think I see a seam around the inside of the back rim. Look specifically under the words HALF DOLLAR on the back where the pic appears to show the seam. This would indicate a Magician's coin. They do not ring, but make a thunk when, for example, dropping it onto a surface.

Look up Scotch & Soda magic trick on google to see what I am talking about.

If you do see a seam around the entire inside back, then put the half into a sturdy drinking glass and shake. The two halves of the half should pop apart. You will see either a Mexican Peso or an old English Large cent attached to the back of the REV.

These are typically sold with a "bang ring" into which you insert the coin and bang the ring on the table to separate the halves. I bought my bang ring separate on ebay - these are fun to trick people with.

I don't see a seam around the edge of the coin where you have mentioned or anywhere else. I have a few of these magician coins that have rotation on the front and back. This coin rings when performing the ring test, it just doesn't ring like silver. My magician coins all sound like they are hollow and made of wood when dropped for the ring test. Here are closeups of edge.

Must have been just the way the lighting was in the pic.

I don't know what this might be. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Not Silver, the Copper is clearly visible on the edge,it may have been electro plated at some point to add the extra weight!
