MD reduces the thickness/size of the letters from what they naturally would be. Look, for example, how thin the H's legs are at their bases where the doubling is and compare how thick the legs are at the top where there is no doubling. The F's leg gets progressively thicker towards the top as the doubling diminishes.
A Doubled Die is doubled on the die. The die that struck your coin was normal, it was just loose and moved a little more at the strike. The extra movement altered the devices it had just made.
