Having encountered the French 2 francs note which features both sides of the contemporary silver coin at Vcoins, I thought that there should be a list of those. A quick search resulted in nothing, so let's try to make one.

Rules: at least one side of the coin must be clearly shown on a banknote. The coin does not have to be contemporary, it can be much older than the note. Notgeld and other emergency issues also count.

As always, if you have any additions or corrections, please post them.

- - -

The 2 francs at Vcoins.

There were several Polish banknotes dated 1924 which feature coins. They were called 'bilet zdawkowy' and issued when the right amount of newly introduced coins wasn't ready yet (GNDM auction archive).

The Fiji paper penny is shown here.

Then, there are the Greek inflationary notes of 1943-44. Identification of the ancient Greek coins pictured on their notes would be welcome as I have no idea about what they are.

- - -

So, we'll start with this:

Fiji, 1 penny, 1942-07-01 | Fiji, 1 penny, 1942 (1942-1943 type, no mintmark)
Greece, 50 lepta, no date (1920) | [ancient Greek coins]
Greece, 50 drachmai, 1943-02-01 | [ancient Greek coin - two heads/bull]
Greece, 100.000 drachmai, 1944-01-21 | [ancient Greek coin - head/owl]
Greece, 5.000.000 drachmai, 1944-07-20 | [ancient Greek coin - head left]
Greece, 25.000.000 drachmai, 1944-08-10 | [ancient Greek coin - two heads/bull]
Greece, 10.000.000.000 drachmai, 1944-10-20 | [ancient Greek coin - head left]
Greece, 100.000.000.000 drachmai, 1944-11-03 | [ancient Greek coin - two heads/bull]

France, 2 francs, 1920-03-10 | France, 2 francs 1919 (1898-1920 type)
Japan, 1 yen, no date (1885) | Japan, 1 yen - date not shown (1874-1912 type)
Japan, 1 yen, no date (1889 & 1916) | Japan, 1 yen - date not shown (Meiji or Taisho type)
Poland, 1 grosz, 1924-04-28 (overprint) | Poland, 1 grosz 1923
Poland, 5 groszy, 1924-04-28 (overprint) | Poland, 5 groszy 1923
Poland, 10 groszy, 1924-04-28 | Poland, 10 groszy 1923
Poland, 20 groszy, 1924-04-28 | Poland, 20 groszy 1923
Poland, 50 groszy, 1924-04-28 | Poland, 50 groszy 1923
Poland, 2 zlote, 1925-05-01 | Poland, 2 zlote 1925 (1924-1925 type)
Poland, 5 zloty, 1925-05-01 | Poland, 5 zloty 1925, 'Konstytucja' pattern
Poland, 10 zloty, 1994-03-25 & 2012-01-05 | [Polish medieval coin]
Poland, 20 zloty, 1994-03-25 & 2012-01-05 | [Polish medieval coin]

The Ukrainian 2 hryvni banknote of the third series (2004-09-24) features a silver coin of Yaroslav the Wise.

Does the Soviet 50 kopek 1923 note count? It is clearly intended to show a coin, but such a coin never existed in reality.

The series 1886 $5 from the US features 5 Morgan dollars on the reverse. Unfortunately, I don't have a pic of one on hand.

january1may, thank you, the Soviet note is an interesting one. Is there any information on the coin being planned, were there any patterns? Both added to the list.
X2an, thank you for mentioning there's more of them. 7 types added to the list.
CoinCollector2012, I haven't seen that one before, great design (and I don't even like Morgans)! Added to the list.

Arkie, thank you. Added to the list.
Dave L, well Wikipedia says it's actually a seal. It seemed very elaborate so I had to check and found this info.

There are many more that would need ascertaining whether what is shown is a coin or some other object, for example:
this, this, this.

There are others that I have added but which need precise identification, such as another three Greek ones which, like the others, have a tentative description of "ancient Greek coin" right now.

I've also found a Roman coin on a banknote. I've identified it as a Philip the Arab antoninianus (correct me if this is wrong). This note has now been added to the list as well.

Then we have the Indergarh cash coupons, local emergency issues depicting Indian 1 and 2 anna coins. Pictures and description here.

Hyderabad rupees shown on their 1 and 5 rupee banknotes:
one rupee 1919 (here's a better image from Stack's) - the date on the coin looks like 1335, no idea what regnal year that's supposed to be though;
one rupee 1939-1946, larger image here - it looks like the dates on the coins are 1361/RY32;
5 rupees 1920-1936, based on the image from ebay, the date on the coins may be 1337.
5 rupees 1938-1947, based on the image from ebay, the date seems to be 1337 as well.

There are more than I thought!
All links are to the banknote.ws website.

Denmark, 10 kroner, showing ten one-krone coins! There have been several different dates for these notes (link, link).
The coins shown on the back of these notes are dated 1875:
Coins-Featured-On-Banknotes---The-List

French colonies, notes showing an undated version of the silver 50 centimes and a 1919 franc (link, link, link).

Peru, 2 soles note dated 1877 showing two one-sol coins on the back (link).

Mexico, paper 8 reales! (link)

Saxony, 5 thaler dated 1855 showing both sides of a coin... that does not exist? (link)
Krause does not list a type that looks like this, the multiple thaler gold coins seem to have been last issued in 1854, the gold krone was introduced in 1857.
And here is a 1 thaler note from the same series (link), this time the obverse matches the thalers of the time, the reverse design also does - but there were no coins with a EIN THALER - EIN THALER inscription as far as I can tell.

Hong Kong, a modern note that shows a Chinese cash coin - and even provides its identification (link).

Macedonia, a modern note with a Byzantine follis (link).

France, Belfort, paper franc dated 1918 with an image of a 1915 silver franc coin (see here).

France, Cahors, paper franc dated 1917 with a double-dated silver franc (see here)!

Then, we have the French 5 and 10 centimes small change emergency notes issued as it seems by various merchants, all with similar basic design and the name printed on, showing the bronze 5 and 10 centimes coins:

Coins-Featured-On-Banknotes---The-List

ebay examples: one, two, three, four.
All feature coins dated 1898.
There are five more of those at MA-Shops (one, two, three, four, five) but the images are so tiny (153x94 pixels? are you serious?) that one can barely see anything. Sometimes the date looks like it may be 1898 as well, sometimes it's not that certain. One note is black-and-white.

And here's another French emergency note, this time it's showing the 19th century version of the 5 centimes coin (ebay).

Surprise.

I don't know how well known this note is. It's a Polish 200,000 zloty. It is said to have been quickly withdrawn due to rampant counterfeiting. Known prefixes range from A to R.

Coins-Featured-On-Banknotes---The-List

I never saw this note when it was circulating and I've never had the chance to look at it closely. I've always assumed that the round shape under the date and signature was some kind of medieval seal or royal symbol.

Coins-Featured-On-Banknotes---The-List

Turns out it might not be. Compare the image above with this Sigismund III solidus (WCN auction archive link).

These coins were minted from the 1580s until the 1620s by many mints and have a lot of varieties. This particular one is from Marienburg/Malbork. It looks like all major details match. From this mint, the WCN archives mention three dates: 1592, 1596, and 1601. However, the two later dates have PO instead of POL in the inscriptions, making this image likely to represent a specimen dated 1592.

Keep looking
