Had a lucky day metal detecting while vacationing in the UK...Small ancient quarter stater. I kept it for 2 days before sending it to FLO for processing. I hope to be reunited with it in about a years time if all goes well.

I posted some other finds in the metal detecting section including a roman silver fragment, various hammered silvers and a cool medieval relic...

Great find. Way to go!
But what is that gold speck on your finger to the right of coin? Are you panning gold also?

FLO is the Finds Liason Officer....when you metal detect over in the UK you have to strictly follow the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure Act....

I'm sure there are some British detectorists who are quite aggro that a Canadian stops by on a vacay and lands a gold coin.

Quite possible, but most comments are positive....another reason to follow the rules and report all your finds...HH

But Lance and Andy (pictured above) both found gold. However, only Lance did the Gold Dance and suffered the Curse of the Gold.
