Looking for your opinions on this 1915 S. In real life the coin is a coppery light brown. As always, thanks!

I'd give it a soak in acetone to see if some of the "crud" will come off.
Rest in Peace

Once again I agree with coinfrog . And I would go with Verdi-care and tooth pic on that crude . Either way should work,
Acetone or Verdi-care .

How long of a soak in acetone would be appropriate?

Everybody has their opinion on this subject - with wheat cents I usually soak them for an hour. Then rinse with new acetone or distilled water as not to reintroduce the crap you wanted to get rid of in the first place by rinsing with the old acetone you soaked it in.

Verdi-Care with a wood toothpick is the best option here, I believe. This should clean up beautifully.

Acetone will do almost nothing for this coin IMO. VC or xylene would be better choices.

I'm going to buck the trend. VF20. I think you are seeing a "woody" deduction. You have a tired die, the flat wheat lines on the distal. As well as a fine grained woody which really messes with the eye. The hair details are more prominant than you would think at a quick glance.
