Doesn't the date read 1711?

If it's counterfeit, the 1711 date on the coin probably doesn't answer the question about the age of the coin.

What difference does it make when the fake was minted?

@mhg111, if you want to know about the silver content, I think that you are going to have to bring it to your LCS and have them use XRF or some such diagnostic equipment on it. I don't believe that anyone can tell whether a coin has been plated silver or is solid silver just by looking at pics (assuming that the coin isn't so worn as to have blown through the plating on the high points).

You'd be surprised... USUALLY, plating (whatever type it may be) is not all that thick. The high points betray it pretty quickly... and even if the plating doesn't fully wear through and reveal a dark core, you quickly often start to get a faint "two-tone" look that reveals what you're dealing with - especially when you know what you're supposed to be dealing with.

The piece clearly has some circulation wear (not just "made to look like that"... as stated in the original thread, I'm seeing a solid "white metal" (or perhaps more appropriately "grey metal") solid alloy here.
