I went ahead and purchased my first 1925 stone mountain half for a whopping 25 bucks. Wanted one for a while. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Nice! I too just purchased a circulated one at a local auction for $15. One more cheap coin to fill my commemorative type set.

That has to be the most popular U.S. commemorative coin ever made. The current Littleton catalog has them on their 'best seller' page for a mere $79.95 .. ..

I hate to rain on your parade, but the picture is of a cast counterfeit.

Interesting, I thought it looked odd.

To me, looks like it possibly had a past acid cleaning which caused the issues with the surface. I wonder about the weight of the coin

The last time I went to the coin store that I buy silver from every Christmas, they had several rolls of these mixed in with the bullion. I bought some Barber halves instead.

That is a very unusual looking Stone Mountain. I agree it looks suspicious. Raw coins are always a risk. But, a twenty five dollar possible mistake is small compared to other deals involving buying fake gold, fake Bust dollars, etc.

Buying a fake coin teaches you a lesson you never forget. Even so I'm still forgetful. Never could pass up a deal in the junk coin bin. This subject has been discussed here recently. http://goccf.com/t/286188#2432316Your coin looks more like corroded and genuine rather than the fake.

Looks original to me, a few surface issues but real imo.
