Hey,

I came across the following Hudson half dollar. I'm working on a classic commemorative circulated set - what do you think of this coin and any problems? What do you think it would grade?

What would be a fair price to pay?

Thanks

I'm no specialist, but this looks crude to me and possibly counterfeit.

The moon looks too round and crescent-like. All of the pics I see online (just a generic image search) have a face and nose.

Obvious fake
Real one below the fake one. Lots of tip offs.

No detail in sails/rigging, moon does not have that man in the moon shape, waves under ship are irregular, flags are different, tail of mermaid is different, lettering is different thickness, especially in CITY OF HUDSON NY.
Rest in Peace

It's as fake as a friendly snake in the lake, Jake.

Absolutely counterfeit .... stay away. This particular counterfeit has been showing up on ebay for years. Here is an authentic example from my set:

You can compare the many obvious differences as pointed out already.

Welcome to the fun and challenging pursuit of these coins in honestly circulated state. It's been an approximately 10 year collecting passion for me and thoroughly enjoyable. I certainly wish you the best with the pursuit!

Not to steal your thread .... but here is what you are looking for in a circulated Hudson ... not an easy find by any means.

agreed - it looked "off" initially and the side x side view really accented it.
