I picked this up for $90 including shipping. Thoughts on grade and problems? Seller's pictures weren't great. I enlarged them, but didn't try to correct for overexposure. Hopefully it looks like the pictures when it arrives. Thanks! Thanks Type. Which markers indicate to you that it may be cleaned? Trying to learn.

EF40 to 45. Obvious weak strike 11 o'clock, shield lines nice (rev.). Price OK. Check accurately for weight.

From those pictures, I would be at EF-45 with no call on surface originality. With how over-exposed those pictures are, I would not at all be surprised if it turns out that this coin has been cleaned.

Quote: Thanks Type. Which markers indicate to you that it may be cleaned? Trying to learn. The whitish color for one. A coin this old and in this grade should not be white. Also, the way the light is reflecting off of the fields suggest the surfaces have been adultered. The picture resolution is too poor to tell, but I think I see hairlines to the right of the bust and to the left of the eagle.

EF-45, pics too washed out to make a call on the surfaces.

This one arrived today. Any thoughts on grade and problems based on revised pics? Thanks!

The 1824 has a cleaned and AT look to it. I think I'm seeing abrasive cleaning marks coming through the "toning".

EF-45, likely old cleaning in left obverse field.

A little darker than I was expecting, but the texture is what I was expecting. EF details. Harshly cleaned. It looks like someone took steel wool to it.
