I just found out that one of the coin shops I frequently go to wants to hire me for a part time job over the summer! I will be doing all kinds of stuff like sorting newly purchased collections, photographing coins for ebay, and also helping customers. I am really excited to see numismatics from a dealer standpoint, and I hope that I will learn a lot over the summer. My first day is on Monday, and I am really excited! I think my only problem will be taking home a paycheck...

Part time would be better than full time and you'll still get quite the education on how a coin dealer thinks. Have fun. Good deals are coming your way.

Congrats! I too would love to work for a shop part-time to get some experience on the other side of the counter. One of my local coin shop dealers says that 5% of what they buy is collectable and the other 95% is junk silver, bullion, and bulk proof sets/foreign coins ..... so be prepared for the boring stuff with a gem or two mixed in.

I wish my local guy would hire me part time then work on full time. heck working in the coin market would probably have better prospects of a job than my teaching degree which is gettting me nothing in terms of a full time job. So sad a person with a masters degree in education can't find a job

Congrats! I did the same when I was a younger guy. Now you'll never want to pay retail price for a coin ever again. Have fun and learn a lot!

I know my pay check would be taken home in flips, 2x2's and an occasional slab. Congrats on landing a cool summer part time job and do keep us posted!
