My friend was really excited to show me a Bison Nickel, I wondered why. Boy was I glad he showed me. The first thing I noticed was how shiny it was then to confirm my suspicion I saw the 2005 S mintmark.

My question is: How do these end up in circulation? It must take a lot of effort to get them out of their cases and wouldn't even someone with a small IQ realize their premium value over circulating currency?

Does the Mint circulate their excess proofs?

they are broken out of mint and proof sets. Most are people that find em like kids who just spend em. But other times the coins can be stolen when they are innocently residing in a 2x2

I just found an Indiana proof quartr the other day.

Most of the recent date ones are those that got into circulation inadvertantly but most of the pre-'95 were intentionally spent because they were culls. There isn't much demand for cull proofs so wholesalers just put them in circulation.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I just found a 1977S proof nickel yesterday while box surfing. Darn thing has a fingerprint on the reverse. Anyone know how to remove it. Pure acetone did not work. I welcome suggestions, anything short of a slag hammer!

proof set right now has 2.91 cents in them before 2007 to the 1999 set.that is just small change to a theft or to some young childern.this problem is from the parents not putting this set away for them.i got a half dollar from a 14 year old.i ask him if he had the other coins to it he had the other 41 cents left I gave him a dollar to save them.

Searching through halves, I've found over 30 proofs, including a 2002 silver proof. I get more excited at a proof then I do at silver.

A few months back, my wife got a 1999S Delaware Quarter (Clad Proof) in change at the grocery store.

It is still in very good shape!
