The coin has a strong strike with some nice color on the reverse and a CAC sticker. Retail for the grade is $130 and I was willing to bid a $50 premium for the coin and I thought I was reaching for the coin. The coin sold for $387 with shipping. -see below- 332223471004

I'll guess it's a combination of the strong strike and toning, but I think it's the toning that sent it so far up. It sure has lots of eye appeal (IMO), and tuning guys will pay for pretty coins.

For some reason that newbie e-bay buyer wanted that coin pretty badly . It's a beauty , I would have graded it MS65 In a heart beat .

I don't think you missed anything. There was some sort of bidding war between the two highest bidders.
I'm waiting to see if the winner actually pays or if it will be relisted...

Yep, the real bidding stopped around $130 except for the newbie and one other bidder.

You see this sort of situation frequently on ebay.

This happens when you have two people for whom neither money nor common sense are any concerns. One of them just has slightly less money and/or slightly more common sense than the other.

Yeah but they wind up throwing the average buyer out of the ball park .

I wish I would have seen this coin myself. I would have taken it higher. Its the neon toning on Buffalo's or any coin for that matter that gets the premium. Keep trying. The toned coin market can be very confusing and frustrating. it's all based on what one will pay for the coin vs. the actual value.

That particular seller lists nice coins consistently, they are usually toned (hence his name) ; HOWEVER; he is widely known for this, and has been in articles, thus his coins go for crazy prices, I have seen common date ASE's with crazy toning sell from him for upwards of $2k... Imho, great to watch, and unless you are EXTREMELY lucky, you will be paying through the nose for any coin that you want of his...
