I found it yesterday, could it be extreme heat only in that area or a defect on the metal?

If it was heat,I would think it would have left a "burnt" area? Could it be some kind of a clear glue?

Note sure what it is? But here is a link on the occluded gas bubbles on planchets. (wheat area examples on solid copper planchets)

But not sure if it is this or not.

If it were damage to the coin, then the expected area would be above the date area on this over lay of the reverse:
1946-Cent-PMD-Or-Something-Else?
But I don't see anything going on with the reverse on this coin. So I would keep it safe for now until we figure this one out.

My best guess is that it's an occluded gas bubble. The depression in the middle of it suggests that it's hollow.
Error coin writer and researcher.
