Hello everyone.

I recently started working part time in a car wash. One of my co-workers is quite the character and helps the time pass. Every day I am regaled about how the moon is a spaceship, humans used to be 12 feet tall and other various stories.

One story I hear about once a week is Wade's amazing twoonie. It has to be worth at least a $1000, he says. I always ask to see it and he always says "I will dig it out some day".

The story changes a bit every time he tells it but the constant bits are as followed

I found it in the grass when twoonies first came out (I am assuming 1996)
It has 12 sides (although once or twice it had 8 sides)
They forgot to put the gold part in it (I assume it would be an all silver colourd alloy)
I had a friend look it up on his computer thing and he says it is worth a $1000. To me it is priceless but I would sell it for that, anything less than that and I would keep it as it means more than a grand to me.

I can not find any record of what he is describing being sold at any auctions. With out an auction sale I don't know how he would get that price.

I have heard of Canadian coins being struck on Israeli platchets before so I started looking up foreign coins that could host this error. I found unsourced information about a 1996 twoonie being struck on a 1996 Bangladesh 5 taka.

Twoonie-Experts,-Getting-To-The-Bottom-Of-An-

Could this be it?

Again, I invited him to coin shows to have it looked at and it was a no go. Today when we were talking about it he said he doesn't keep it at home and he will dig it out and he may sell it to me if I have a grand.

He also said he wrapped it in paper towel and it scratched it a bit.

I don't know why I believe him but I do. Everyone else ridicules him about it but I think he may have a real winner here. He keeps a copy of Krause and the Bible under the work bench at all times so I know he is actively looking for coins.

Has anyone seen what he is describing? Can anyone give ma an idea of value?

I had an amazing off metal twoonie find several years ago.

But I'll assume you must be talking about a different "Wade" ? as the details you describe don't match mine (other than being non-bimetalic)

Yes, different Wade.

Actually, when I first heard the story I though of your twoonie. You had the messed up Nunavut one, yes?

correct, I had the '99 Nanuvat

if it helps any I sold it for $750 CDN.

from my limited knowledge of twoonie errors I would say that "Wade's" might be worth the same, or possibly less, as 1996 was year that seemed to have more than it's fair share of errors.

of course without seeing it there is always a chance that it's just a unicorn... stories are great and all but the proof is in the hand... or it's not.

The coin from our own CCF's 'Wade' is now in the hands of Canada's foremost twoonies expert. You can see it here, along with other fantastic twoonie errors:

It sounds to me like he suffers from a condition known as "delusions of grandeur", especially the spaceship moon and 12-foot humans stuff. I worked with a guy like this a long time ago in a paper mill. My hunch is that his twoonie doesn't exist.

kbbpll, I would have agreed with you but I got a shock of my life today.

So my co-worker had his parents swing by the car wash. I came out of the back room and he said "Look at this".

This thing exists. I am going to try to convince him to let me snap a picture of it and weight it.

He has it in a plastic bag so I will be bringing him a 2x2. It has 12 sides, but not "strong" sides. It looks just like a Bangladeshi 5 taka with a little extra metal bent on one side. I imagine that is because the twoonie is 28mm and the 5 taka is just shy of 27mm

He let me see it because he said I would enjoy it for what it was.

So should I see about getting him to send it to a TPG? Before I do that I would like to weight it/measure it.

No pics? I don't believe his parents own a car.
