I purchased this at the flea market for a basic investment buy but when I looked closer and googled some info on the date it might be reverse of 78? I am trying to identify Morgan VAM for the first time and this looked like a good one to start with

Lawest,

Are you asking for our help with the VAM number or would you prefer to discover it yourself?

First step is to visit the VamWorld page and click on Morgan Vams by Date, then 1879-S. Note that hyperlink at the very top of th page "TRUST". Click on it and I think the rest will be easy from there. I could VAM it from your pictures.

Remember on those VamWorld pages that hyperlinks are your friend. Fellow Vammers have gone to great lengths to do the sorting and categorizing for you.

Good luck.

SeatedNut, thanks for the info... I think it might be VAM-34. If it is this would be my first to identify (with much appreciated help!). Also, I know very little on how to grade these... any idea on grade?

VAM 34 is correct. I would give this a Fine 15 grade based on the reverse wear.

Great find! The 1879-S reverse of 1878 is a hard coin to find but very easy to spot. Just look at the arrow feathers.
