hi
i've been carefully examining all my 2017-P cents the last few weeks, have found many interesting but minor things.
looking at your reverse pic, looks like a nice die crack along the bottoms of the CEN letters. I see some shield cracks, too, in the usual places along the shield top.
i say 'the usual places' because most of the cracked shields I find are on the right shield crown rib, above E PLURIBUS, and sometimes under it along the middle rib.
i also find numerous cents with those clusters of scratches/gouges over the top left shield edge, typically running diagonally as yours are. sometimes those are accompanied by same direction diagonal scratches/gouges at the right shield side.

USSID18-
some, but most have the spots. i've found few with cracks not on the shield. most of the cracks I find are part of the shield and are spotted. i'll be getting them out for posting pix here. I can't recall which cents I have with spots and which ones without. i'll get on it directly.

I don't believe anything will remove those spots. I put the nice (clean ones) to the side.

LOL, USSID18, I do that, too... I was reading an article somewhere about those spots... something about a rinsing process, the new rinse they were using left spots & the coin that gets minted gets those spots minted into the surface and cannot be removed (to the dismay of nearly everyone). I think I remembered that correctly.
i'm working up to my next post, it'll be right here, I have a (spotted) 2017-P cent with, among other things, a die crack through the bottoms of CEN, similar to the one posted at the top here, but not quite the same. coming up within the next hour.

i'm posting this in this thread only because of the similarity between the die cracks at CEN. here's the obverse of a 2017-P cent. CEN, one with light from above & one with light from below. you can see the die crack at the bottoms of CEN, which connects the three letters, and a small chunk of metal between the E & N. a marker for this particular die is a short die gouge off the top of one seraph of the you to the rim. and here's a pic of the shield crack & spot above it. i'm not sure what that spot is. is it a die chip or is it a collapsed part of the die in the field above the crack on the shield? I have other specimens that have a defined edge around the circumference of the chip. does anyone know why these shield cents have this? many many of these do I find, most usually with a crack or cracks along that upper right crown rib on the shield, sometimes running along to the upper shield point, sometimes with small gobs of metal (cud?), sometimes with multiple gobs, sometimes with tiny breaks. is it just a design flaw of the shield cent? not just 2017s, I see this flaw on other dates, as well, almost always in the same area.

Quote: does anyone know why these shield cents have this? No I can't say. I'm sure there is a technical term for it. Maybe Die Deterioration, a plating issue. It's very common on these cheap things. I guess they made "B"illions of them. Quality control is out the window, especially at Philly! Quote: sometimes with small gobs of metal (cud?) No, Cuds are on the rim. Gob is a good technical term that works for me.

Yes, they should move all the mint employees from Denver to Philly and all mint employees at Philly to Denver. Back to your original question. You might consider post your coin here. These guys will be very happy to see your coin. http://www.Lincolncentforum.com/
