Reading an article from CNN about restoration of the HL Hunley and this coin was found. It was owned by LT George Dixon and it saved his life by deflecting/stopping a bullet. This is so cool. Link to article: http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/08/trave...t/index.html

This is history. Just thought I'd share.
Edit: An 1860 $20 gold = $20. An 1860 $20 gold that just saved your life = priceless

I have been to see the Hunley in Charleston. It is really cool. They had that coin at the exhibit. I could not take a picture because they would not let us take any.

IMO, a coin involved in a "near death experience" is "near priceless".

A "near death" and then an actual death. Dixon went down with the Hunley after it made the world first successful sinking of another ship by submarine attack. The story of how the coin had saved his life before was just a story until the coin was found in the salvaging of the Hunley.

For what it is worth, you can get a HL Hunley license plate in SC.
