Trying to figure out date on this Bust half, 2x2 has 1836?. Seems like it COULDbe, just can't render a better date...there are varieties, and of course is this a reeded edge(doubtful)or straight? My concern is the size/height of the 3 (3rd digit), is up more than other 36's I saw(this may be a 1836/1336, couldn't find a comparison). HELP! I'd like to purchase it Tomorrow at auction.

TH. If I make it any lighter any shadow details (the helpful ones) wash out. I've photo shopped this every way I could trying to get any details on the lower half, just really nothing left, was hoping enough left on uppers to determine, not a expert on this series. Here's another try: Not so sure 3rd digit isn't a 2 even.

Your last digit is definitely a 6, therefor making it definitely a 1836. You can see the top of the curl of the 6. That's the giveaway.

IF it is an 1836, it's definitely not either the 1836/1336 or the 50/00. The banner alignment on the reverse is off for it to be either of those. I couldn't nail it down for which die marriage it is though. http://www.maibockaddict.com/1836-c...t-page.shtml

So, definite 1836, no variety, take it not a reeded edge type?

Sorry, no. The reeded edge type actually states "50 Cents" on the reverse.

Ace, this does say that, according to Red Book, not so. 1836-7 had "50 CENTS", 1838-9 changed reverse to "HALF DOLLAR"...Why my question, the reeded edge 1836 in G3 is worth $1,250 per RB! LOL, with my luck! Riigghht, pull the other one! maybe I ought to add some subdued reeded edge to this coin...well come on now, at least it'll fill that hole in the 7070!

@crazyb0, just an observation here...it looks to me like the clear plastic on your 2x2 has been torn from the staples of the 2x2 that was located immediately in front of this coin. I strongly recommend that you flatten all of your staples to avoid damaging your coins.

Quote:Ace, this does say that, according to Red Book, not so. 1836-7 had "50 CENTS", No, the one pictured actually only says 50 C. it doesn't have "cents" spelled out like the reeded edge would have. So, even if you added your own reeding it wouldn't be a reeded edge.

Ace, gotcha! Learn something new every day, thanks for the correction. Now that it is definitely the 1936 In reeded edge, don't need it to my 7070, rats...
