The gods of luck must be with me tonight.

Got pulled over for no front license plate - just a warning.

Then I score this scarce 1964-D Washington quarter with the Type C reverse (1965 reverse die) for a whopping $9.10...in a SEGS holder, to boot! I need to cross it to a PCGS holder so I can get it into my variety registry.

Been looking for a good example of this variety (FS-901) for awhile and they are hard to come by in any grade so I count my blessings this one showed up. Wexler states two die pairs are known, this is the first (no die crack.)

Thanks for looking!

(Yeah, it's not the most exciting variety in the world, nor the highest grade, but to a Washington addict such as myself, it's pretty darn nice to find...)

PCGS book value in AU55 is $90 so I'm pretty happy with a $80 discount.

Besides the more enhanced breast feathers, what other factors can one use to more easily ID this coin in lower grade specimens?

Also, are side-by-side visual comparisons with a normal '64-D 25C out there?

I've not researched it yet, but they were probably all from the same experimental die? So there could be 3/4K of these out there?

Nice coin. I've been looking for one myself. I purchased an uncirculated example on ebay and the seller sent me a normal 64D. Obviously I returned it and still looking!

@coop

I vaguely remembered something about a device touching another device and the "touching leaves" feature is what sealed the deal to help nail these down on worn down samples: excellent visuals.

The type 'B' proof reverses have the 'A' touching a leaf:

IMO (answering to COOP, and for the others also), was two Dies. The reason I say it is because on type C not all the markers fit, they are different and only two variants was find, and this on both strikes silver or clad and only one variant VDR on 1965 clad or silver.

This coin has what I see on transition 1965 silver quarter: the leaf on the left bottom wing is less define and same level with the wing. The leaf on the last feather right touch, the N is longer and do not touch and it is not strait . So it is one of the one in my opinion of two dies, first or second? Who can answer at this.

PS. Same thing happened with the halves, when I will finish the studies I will publish here also.
