Bookends occur when the same sequence of digits can be found at both ends of the serial number. For example, in the serial number 52194521, "521" is the sequence of digits occuring at both the beginning and end of the number and are called "bookends." As far as auction houses referencing BOOKEND serial numbers in the notes description, this term is used exclusively on ebay, and no where else. I personally do not know any serious collect that collects bookend serial numbers. If you like it, keep it. Edited to add; The first note displayed by the OP was a bookend note. The note the OP has now presented is a radar.

Unsure of the "bookend serial" designation, but to me this is a very nice radar and a (low value) keeper.

Original note I saw had a bookend serial. The note now is a radar note.
