1885-O Morgan With Dash Under 8 But No Dentil Mark....?

It has the dash under the second 8, and the O mintmark slightly shifted right, but it does NOT have the required vertical mark in the denticle directly under the second 8. These characteristics should be enough to designate the VAM but without the vertical denticle mark I'm stumped. dave700x Rest in Peace United States 10625 Posts	Posted 06/14/2017 7:44 pm I'm not sure what the vertical mark should look like. It surely doesn't stand out on the plate photos. flyank Valued Member United States 77 Posts	Posted 06/14/2017 8:26 pm When I researched VAM-7 in VAMWORLD photos(same obverse as VAM-14) the tiniest vertical mark can be seen emanating from the top of the denticle. That die marker does not exist on my coin which is why I am puzzled. Report this Post to the Staff

twodsonegf Rest in Peace United States 637 Posts	Posted 06/16/2017 12:08 pm Mint mark is telling me of VAMs 14 and 16, you have a VAM-16. VAM-14 mm is set a little bit lower. I've yet to find a VAM-14 without the denticle chip, though it wouldn't surprise me if they are out there. Report this Post to the Staff

twodsonegf Rest in Peace United States 637 Posts	Posted 06/17/2017 10:01 pm Just check the VAM-14 page ( http://www.vamworld.com/1885-O+VAM-14 ) and look at the ear polishing lines as well as the polish line(s) at wing/neck gap and bow. The mm position is also a little different than VAM-16. Report this Post to the Staff

I don't see anything on the feathers or arrows but POSSIBLY a VERY slight doubling under the shaft, but very inconclusive. Hope this helps..... Report this Post to the Staff
