So I found this at work. I took it to the bank (4 years ago) and asked if it is real? They said "no" it is worth 5¢. I should take it to a local coin dealer (He seems shady)... I held on to it. Is it real... From what I can tell it is but then again I'm not good at telling real coins from fakes.

Could someone please give me their best opinion.

Yes, it's real; yes, it's worth five cents; it might be worth a little more since they don't circulate much any more; and, yes, your local coin dealer is probably a little shady - but no more than most.

It looks like it was plated along time ago . and just kept circulating so half the plating has worn off . yes I believe it's a real Buff worth 5 cents .

Real but polished or plated, not worth much more than 5 cents due to the alteration.
