Here's a coin from a family collection. I had more photos of it, but none of the others turned out. I'm on the other side of the US now, so I can't get more pictures for a while. Maybe a Kreuzer? I looked through google and a few antique coin books, and while the double-headed eagle is a recurring image in this year range, I've found no exact matches to this coin. It's fairly large, maybe 5 centimeters across? The 2 on the 1712 looked like a Z. Anyone know what this is?

I think I know but I can't be sure.
If you post a picture of the other side and state the weight, that would clinch it.

@regillmore, first welcome to CCF. Scond, I agree that having a pic of both sides would be super-helpful. By the way, you are correct that the number 2 at that time looked like our letter Z.

@Spence Thanks! Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the other side of the coin. I had a lot of coins to inventory and a very short time window, so I focused on capturing the sides with dates first. This one was the oldest in the collection, so it caught my attention. I may have physical access to it again in a few months, if I'm able to make another trip. I'll try to bring something a little better than an iPad with me next time, or at least make sure the pictures I do take are clear. Rookie mistake on my part. Edit: Here's the rest of that photo with some other coins for scale.

@Spence Awesome! That Thaler link looks like an exact match, same year and everything.
100 numista rarity index? Does that mean anything in real life?

The Numista rarity just says how many members on Numista own a specific type of coin, with 100 being no one. Even so, I have seen many coins with a high Numista rarity, but also with a low value, so that scale is not the most reliable. But looking at NGC's price guide, this coin is not cheap (see here).

@Petrus I wish I had it with me to measure more accurately, but based on the 1893 Columbian Exposition coin next to it in the photo, which should be 30.6mm in diameter, I'd ballpark this Thaler in the 42-44mm range, depending on where it's measured. Having had a chance to look, I can see the 1712 half Thaler is very similar, but would have BW instead of IAP across the bottom, which seems to be exclusive to the full Thaler. http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/A...ler_Dav-1066Given the history of the collection, I'd be skeptical of this being a restrike, but it's good to know that's a possibility. Valuable enough to be worth keeping an eye on, but not a life changer.
