I don't know the physics of it but, the devices on coins seem to interrupt the die crack trajectory more often than not or halt it altogether.
I noticed on War Nickel reverses that a die crack coming from the top almost always (if not always) shifts right after hitting Monticello's dome, not left.

Note the mark flows behind the devices, so this maybe a die scratch on the field. It is were a die crack it would be raised and flow over tops of the devices. From the image it doesn't appear to show that. (a lot of glare can be hiding something though)
