Hi everyone. I have an 1867-1992 Canadian penny that has the same material composition as a dime or nickle. Would anyone know anything about this coin? i.e. rarity, is it nickel, value...? I tried to find out more about this coin but could not find the same coin. I have attached pictures. Thank you all for your time :) Edited by vintage 06/24/2017 9:28 pm

Does it stick to a magnet? How much does it weigh?

Hello DBM. Thank you for your reply. It does stick to a magnet. I do not know the weight?

If the weight confirms a penny on dime, looks really nice shape about 3 to 4 hundreds bucks, weight will tell the story

Thank you John. I will get it weighed and let you know. My dad put it away for me with a collection and I was just curious. I was coin collecting for years when I was younger. I am not a well informed or extremely knowledgeable collector like most on these forums. I wish that I was :)

Quick question. Does anyone know a good place in Toronto where I can have it certified? That will give it a rating as well, correct? Also; how much does it usually cost?

CCCS is the only third party grader in Canada that grades errors about 50 bucks with all the shipping they are in Quebec, take coin to a Canada Post outlet ask nicely to weigh it for you, it's a nice coin worth slabbing

Its a nice looking piece. ICCS is in Toronto but they will not certify this piece. They don't do errors. You can send it to the US to certify but with all the costs it won't be worth it. This will sell well without certification. With under 50 comments you can't sell here. *** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***

If you do not intend to keep this coin, after you get a weight to confirm it's struck on a dime, chuck it on ebay it will sell itself without grading, good luck !

If you decide to post this on ebay please let us know. $300 to $400 sounds about right.

Even if it's a cracked die, it's worth 1 cent

When you have it weighed, make sure that the coin makes NO metal to metal contact with the scale surface..
The plastic will protect it or a small piece of paper between the 2 surfaces..
It's a great find..
