You may want to try using a cotton swab dipped in lemon juice and gently rubbing it on the coin. But to be honest if you haven't done it before I would just leave the coin alone. You just might make it worse.

@stonewall, I'd like to echo Ron's comment about going slow with this one. That area of the coin may have become brittle. Even gentle cleaning might break it apart. If you do decide to move forward, please post "after"pics so we can see how things ended for you. Best of luck!
