hi - I'm new to the forum - morning - i was reading some excellent articles on proof sets on this wonderful site and had a quick question....
noticed on some of my recent proof sets, what appears to be a "moving" moisture spot.....
looks like a small puddle and when I push down on the case, the puddle seems to move in one direction or the other (like the BLOB!)
not at all sure what this is, how it got it there, how to get it out....or if it might affect (or is it effect?) the coins in the long run?
any info you have on this phenomenon would be greatly appreciated....
thanks!

To CCF , whatever that is that your describing isn't good in preserving those proof sets. My advice to you is crack all those coins out ,give Acetone bath and put them into air-tites as long as they are not already ruined . Also take the rest of your sets that don't have that problem and store them in a different location (environment). No heat ,cold ,humidity ,moisture . Good luck

to CCF. T-BOP gave you good advice. If you dip in acetone, make sure to use 100% pure. Do not use nail polish remover. John1

to CCF! What year are your proof sets? I notice you mention "recent," but does that refer to recent years or recently purchased? It's possible that the "blob" you describe is an air bubble, maybe from improper packaging or sealing, especially if it is a soft pack proof set that is not in a hard case. Just another possibility. It also depends on the environment in which you are storing them. Could you upload some pictures?

Yes crack them out. Moisture can't be good. You may want to get some silica packets.

hi - thanks all for the input - ok - it was the pres dollar lense from the the 2016 silver proof set - i cracked it open and tried to wipe clean both sides of the lense. then I put the set "back" together...this seemed to help - but I don't know what long term issues I may have created by doing this.....
noticed the same thing on other 2016 / 2017 sets also......

Never wipe a proof, ever. Use acetone, as suggested. No matter how careful you try to be, wiping a proof will almost always leave HAZE in the fields, at the very least.

hic! Yes, the moisture will have a negative effect on your proofs. An acetone dip would be good.
