During an epic road trip last week, we came across an interesting coin holder. The holder was actually the counter in the Western Art Gallery Cafe in the Wall Drug Store in Wall, South Dakota. I saw only Morgan and Peace dollars, but I know I didn't see all of the coins (some were covered by other items). They appeared to be set in recessed spaces in the wooden counter, and the entire counter was covered with a layer of plexiglass. When you check out their store map, the counter is listed as their "silver dollar bar".

The store is an iconic stop along I-90 with many cool and quirky rooms, merchandise, and items, but I think my wife and daughter thought I was crazy for thinking the silver dollar bar was the neatest thing I saw there.

Very nice!

I was there in 1980. The only thing I really remember is the jackalope.

Been there a couple times and enjoyed the silver dollar bar. One time was close to 40 years ago. The last time was about 7 years ago. I remember the first trip that Wall Drug not only had jackelopes, but flying jackelopes that had jackelope heads and chicken bodies... very funny.

And the place started out simply by the man who made the place offering free glasses of ice water. I still have the Wall Drug bumper sticker on my car along with the other, main, famous truckstop - South of The Border.

I was there in the mid-70's. Mostly I remember seeing signs for Wall Drug for hours and hours before we got there. LOL

I was there once. I was moving cross-country (WA-NY) when I was about 22 yrs old. It was Thanksgiving Day when I got there, and Wall Drug was closed. I got gas across the street, and the guy that owned the gas station and his approx 8 yr old son came out to play with my dog (a female tri-color cocker spaniel named Fred), and I ended up giving them the dog. Never did get my free water from Wall...
