MANY years ago I collected world coins, as a kid (MANNNY years ago ;) ) Recently I made a friend who is very much into the hobby and he gave me a "starter" coin he believes is from Ancient Rome or Greece. Could you help me ID it? Sorry for the image quality, on the road and this is a phone photo:
For starters, it's a Roman provincial coin, made for local use in the provinces. The reverse has a "priest ploughing with oxen right" which was used by a handful of cities.
Still trying to figure out the bust, but my guess is 1st century AD. My gut said Domitian, but I can't find a match. Provincial coins rarely used the "imperial" portrait so they are extra tough to figure out.
When taking pictures please try and make them as clear as you can, these are a bit too blurry. Can you also provide the size and weight of the coin. The bust does look a bit like Domitian but I can't say for sure.
Yes, I apologize, when we get back home I'll use a real camera and not my iPhone and see if I can get sharp pics. I'll also provide size (it's about U.S. quarter size, perhaps a little smaller) and weight.
