Had been watching this one on ebay and finally decided to pull the trigger. India, Kingdom of Sindh Chach of Alor c. 632-671 AR hemidrachm (.68g, 12mm) Schematized bust right (the oval shape is the eye, lips below and ear behind) Fire altar (the three dots) surrounded by Brahmi "Sri Paramjeta" The fall of the Gupta empire to the barbarian Hunnic hordes in c.550 brought about a new dark age for India. Among the power struggles and to the north of the Maitraka kingdom of Gujarat rose the kingdom of Sindh in modern day Pakistan. The region had been under the control of the Buddhist Rai dynasty since the early 5th century AD. The final ruler of that dynasty, Rai Sahasi II, died childless in 631. He was served by a Hindu prime minister, Chach of Alor, who had secretly been engaged in an affair with his wife. Upon the king's death, Chach married his lover and began a new dynasty in Sindh. His nearly 40 year rule was spent mostly at war, subjugation provinces and cementing his hold over the area. He was engaged in conflicts with both the Sassanid Empire and the Rashidun Caliphate. Chach died in 671 and was succeeded by his younger brother. Following that, his son inherited the throne, and would die in battle against the Umayyad invasion of Sindh in 712 AD. Despite their poor fabric, these coins adhere to tight weight standards; they correspond to a hemidrachm by the Gupta standards. The design is most likely borrowed from the Skandagupta fire altar type: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces44911.html

Interestingly cool. There is so much about Indian numismatics that I don't know.

Thanks all!
@Spence, Indian numismatics is a bottomless pit; once you venture in, there is no way out!

I agree with Spence: "cool" is a good word for it. Quote: Indian numismatics is a bottomless pit; once you venture in, there is no way out! It certainly seems so. It's a rich but very intimidating area. The occasional Kushan tet is as far into the pit that I will go. Especially when I can enjoy Indian coins vicariously through you, drnsreedhar, Ron, and others.

No, Photobucket got greedy. Apparently last night, they changed their policy and hosting photos is now a "premium" paid service. I hate that all of my photos no longer work in any of my topics. I had been fed up with them for a long time, but it was a convenient way to not use up CCF's bandwidth by hosting photos here. I guess this was the shove I need to 1) find a better photo host and 2) get a website of my own to host important write-ups in a stable environment that I am 100% in control of. Apologies again, but it seems that all of my old topics are now trash. I think you can at least click the photo to see it on Photobucket.

I hope so too. It's really unfortunate that photobucket didn't at least give their users a few days notice beforehand.

Unless they get the hint and go back to how things were (I suspect this is a bid to scuttle the company) I fear I'll have to start over. Except for the Gadhaiya Paisa thread, no terrific loss. Even that thread needed a revisit, since I added at least two dozen coins to series I had already completed.
My collection is in desperate need of reorganization anyway; this will give me the excuse to start some long-running threads to finally articulate what has been kicking around in my brain.
