Greetings all,

was about to put this 1999 proof Susan B. Anthony on ebay but notice something when I was taking photos...sorry for the quality of the photos but maybe some one can tell me what this is.

Look at the United States, there is what appears to be a die crack starting at the D of United and encompassing the Sta of States. At first I thought it was "slag" stamped over, but as look at it it doesn't appear raised.. Yet it is too irregular to be a die crack (?). Notice at the bottom the D and you can see it doesn't go under the D but across it, same on the other letters just doesn't show up as well in the photo. there is some finger smudges on the plastic holder which doesn't help but what I am pointing out is not a smudge.

any ideas?

I'm not good with errors. But, could it possibly be a clash? Does anything on the obverse line up?

here's another shot...

Susan-B.-Anthony-Anomoly?

doesn't look like anything I have seen before, especially on a proof which is supposed to have a polished planchet, there doesn't seem to be any extra metal, or a lamination problem (if proofs have laminated planchets) so it must be something in regards to the die and stamping...possibly the beginning of die disintegration and falling apart?

The planchet may have gotten scratched somehow prior to minting, but I don't imagine it would have passed QC if that was the c ASE

Possibly something on the coin or a struck through issue? I don't see an issue with the planchet or die.

You should remove it from the capsule for a better view but it does not look like any sort of die or planchet failure to me.

the last photo posted is "on the half shell" with the top of the plastic round removed, due to flash and polished planchet it is hard to get a good shot, will try on my camera stand but have to read my Canon manuel to review settings, due to holidays my be a few days.

thanxz for looking and for the input.
