The stripes at the top on obverse look like it was the edge and when it was struck again I wound up on front. Am I looking at it wrong? Is it something else altogether

This is post-mint damage.

Looks like it's spent some time on the pavement of a busy highway or perhaps a railroad.
Rest in Peace

No, you're not stupid and neither are the 30 people who looked at it. Perhaps they didn't know the answer or were reading the thread hoping to learn.

Error coins can be tricky and sometimes we need to look things up to be sure.

Definitely a damaged coin. Not an error coin.

Good theories from Crazyb0 above on how this sort of thing happens.

Things to note on damaged coins:
1. The outside edge should be circular. On a damaged coin, the coin is bent/flattened/out of round.
2. If the full rim of the coin is visible on one side of the coin, it would be the same on the opposite side. Again if the rim is distorted with an indentation, it is probably damage from another coin in circulation or damaged to make it look like it is something, when all it is a damaged coin.
3. coin scratches drop the value quickly. Turning the coin into a cull coin. (up to 90% drop in value)
Rest in Peace

Happy Forth of June. er, JULY everyone!

Coop, so much a drop in value, bet it won't make it through a counter and is a 25c reject!
