What's it worth?

Old guy wants 100$, I have seen a lot in this condition go for around that but unsure.

Note looks to be in f/vf condition but horribly centered. (This series was notoriously poorly centered!)

There are plenty of these available in CU. If I were you I'd hold out for an unc note that has good centering. You'll be much happier in the long run.

100$ is not a bad price for this particular note.

Not an expert on paper money, but I'd have to agree that you would rather pay more for a better looking note.

Agree. Price is OK but the centering is terrible for sure. There are plenty of these around - wait for a nice high VF or EF example.

As an addendum, this is of course a one-year type note and therefore a bit pricey. This red seal "United States Note" was authorized in the first issue of small notes in 1928 for obscure statutory reasons, alongside its much more common blue seal "Silver Certificate" brother. It was not actually printed until 1933 and not even released into circulation until the late 1940s, and even then only in Puerto Rico to reduce "sorting problems" at mainland banks with this oddly colored note. (See Schwartz and Lindquist "Standard Guide..." et al).

All in, perhaps my favorite small size note, and I buy them frequently.
