Hi I am really new at coin collecting and I love it so far but I came across this black quarter and I'm not sure if it was made this way but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. Thank you

As mentioned it was a normal coin that darkened. Now what ever caused the color is now wearing off the coin showing the base color now.

A common clad quarter toning. Yours was put back into circulation after it toned and the high points of the design elements are now silver because of the rub from that circulation.

Possibly it got buried and someone found it with a metal detector and spent it.

Thank y'all so much but there is stuff on the bottom that looks like ink that I can't remove. Do you think it's possible that someone colored it and it's just been like that for so long that it won't come off?

Soak it in pure Acetone. Read up about how to and safety.
Go to Search top of the page left side.
