@walters, first welcome to CCF. Second, there are no silver lincoln cents. There are, however, a bunch of ways that a cent can be made silver-colored after it leaves the mint. For example, the copper plating can be stripped off to reveal the zinc core, the coin can be plated with silver, chrome, or nickel, or the coin can be dipped in mercury. There are probably others, but these leap to mind. None of these add any numismatic value to the coin. I think that you can safely spend this one.

There are silver lincoln cents but they are error coins where a penny is inadvertently struck on a silver dime planchet. Nobody knows how many could be out there but generally they will be during the war years since it was easier for the error to go undetected. Here is a nice video describing one that was found.

Posting questions with pictures of the coins is the most common type of post on the forum. It isn't considered SPAM or anything like that, so post away! However, you might be able to use the forum to look up threads that have already been asked about coins similar to yours. I do this before I ask a question because the question/answer frequently already exists in the archive of past posts. The way to use past conversations follows:

On almost all Forum pages there is a box at the upper-left corner that says, "Search Coin Community". It is a search engine that will take the terms you input to look for those words in in past threads. It works quite well. Give it a try and see how well it works.

@fenton

Thanks for correcting the record! We all know what the poster tried to convey - it just din't come out right. My silver Lincoln is struck on a struck on a struck dime rather than a silver planchet. While worth more, I wish the dime design did not show.

THe odds of this being struck on a silver planchet are very low but to be safe you should get this weighed in grams. If you do not have a gram scale you can always go to a jewelry store.

Yes! Of course they do!...eBay can't be wrong...can they?

"You mean these I paid $XX apiece for aren't really stamped on a dime planchet?"...(or "aren't really a mistruck steel planchet?")

These were really found CRH or Bulk searching and the 1945 is slightly magnetic so that coating is nickel, other on 1961 is unknown but quite "shiny", chrome?

@fenton, yes thanks for correcting me. I had no idea that there were a few cents struck on silver dime planchets. I also agree that the chances of finding one in the wild now is pretty slim.

I have seen (not in person) a few "off-metal" Lincoln cents struck on silver dime planchets.
