Liking that gold coin design!

The buffalos I used to be around (River Valley Ranch a Western themed summer camp for kids complete with weekly rodeo, stage etc.) didn't jump the fence though. The time the bull damaged the fence he literally was just grazing and slowly pushed through the fence like it was not there. That was a new fence made of (green!) oak timber cut from the Ranch's land. Gives a person respect for their power.

It certainly outshines a lot of the other CCAC proposed designs for the 2025 American Liberty Gold Coin and Silver Medal program. Take a look at these two gems:

@Cap:

Thanks for the link.

Being serious here. It really does look like they asled some 8th grade art class for some of those designs. I think it would be good if they made it a requirement that people submitting designs have to take an online quiz to identify past designs of US coins so at least they get a feel for what the US has, in the past, deemed worthy of representing our country on its coinage (leave out some of the recent quarter issues!).

Maybe if an artist saw a St. Gaudens, Walking LIberty, Buffalo nickels etc. they would be influenced to not make US coinage as ridiculous looking as some of those designs are. I sincerely hope those were children with some of those designs.

I still find US coin designs rather restrained and dignified, with the possible exception of the Jovita Idar quarter. At least you haven't had any Mr. Men coins - and, yes, these were official United Kingdom £5 coins, not Alderney or Tristan da Cunha issues!

I could forgive The Royal Mint if these were a real attempt to encourage children to start coin collecting, but they were only available for about three times face value and not distributed through banks or Post Offices.

I tried to get a new design for the Zinc Cent approved a few years ago so that the problem with zinc rot wouldn't be as noticeable. I guess the mint didn't see just how brilliant my design was! It even has readable barcode!!! Oh well, I thought it was one of my better ideas. Stupid mint officials!

@yokozuna:

You had me laughing out loud at this! So was the OBV image of the Man in the Moon as a Miss Liberty effigy planned or did it just just happen?
