Hi All!

I bought Divus Augustus Pater coin struck under Tiberius some months ago:

Divus-Augustus-Ae:-As-Or-Dupondius...-And-Why?

According to the seller, and some internet resources, this is a Dupondius (Augustus wearing a radiate crown), and according to others, this is an As (RIC I, 81).

Here's a picture of a better exemplar of the same type:

Divus-Augustus-Ae:-As-Or-Dupondius...-And-Why?

There are other early imperial coins with radiate crowns and also not labeled as dupondius.
Which is the criteria used to categorize these?
And what is correct here? As or dupondius?

Thanks a lot!
D.

According to my 1984 edition of RIC Vol I it is listed as an AS.

Interesting. I've always been under the assumption that if an early AE is radiate it is a dupondius.
