Lets try this again. I won this one the same day as my 1948 I put up for grading earlier.

Although I bought this one more for the toning. I am kind of curious to see what this one would grade.

The seller described this one BU. Although I tend not to rely on those descriptions.

This 1st photo is to show luster the best I could.

Here are close-up of both sides with a little less glare.

What say the forum?

Thanks again...Mont

Mont, hopefully I can make you fell a little better on this Half than the 48 . BU ? Yes I agree . but that is some weird toning , maybe because I'm not really into toned coins . Anyway as long as it's not AT then you have a nice Franklin that deserves bragging rights .

Thanks for mentioning this. I was gonna ask if this was normal toning for a Franklin.

So What say ye forum? AT or NT?

My decision as to tone being natural or applied is pretty simple. Natural toning progresses from whatever contact point on the coin is causing the toning, even if that is nothing more than exposure to the air and sun.

That toning is almost always slightly varied but shows such progression in an orderly manner.

Splotchy, blotches, streaks, pin point varied color, all warn me to be wary.

Then, some consideration must be given to the coin type. For Franklin's, there is rarely bullseye tone. In fact, it's very rare to find a Franklin with the color this one shows. Look at higher end MS-66 & 67 and you will commonly see nearly pure deep yellow tone which often darkened to a deep brown, and then black.

Given those parameters, I would give this AT. But that way of deciding on AT or natural is strictly my own. There are always examples that breaks these identification functions, but not often.

with Mox. This one has been tampered with. Hard to tell with the tone if this is AU-58 or low MS.

With all the dings and that big scratch on the reverse, if it is mint, it's MS60. From what I can see though there is no sign of wear.
