Recently acquired in a group lot, can not find it on numista or in krause.

it strongly resembles an very rare trial strike (P50 Mei Copper), although the trial (bottom) has one extra character in the legend.

any help greatly appreciated, thank you in advance

Not a chance that it's genuine. Look at the details carefully - they are quite wrong. One of those modern fakes.

I realize it's not the trial strike, but it is related very closely in design. Nor do I think it is a modern forgery of the trial strike unless they have gotten very good at patina and grunge that matches 100 year old coins to a "T"
A contemporary fake maybe, but why fake a coin that doesn't match anything in circulation?
I see another one available online, being called a 50 cash, but no mention of K# etc.

Chinese are specialist is making fakes/replica's, and they also have the knowledge to make everything look old....
