I recently took advantage of the special ANACS ran. I have grown to put more faith in your opinions than the TPGs. First set of photos were taken before slabbed and the 2nd set after. 1st set of photos not to good, I just posted them so you all could determine the scratches are on the slab. I will be post the results in 24 hours or so. Thanks in advance, Jim

AU-55 or might even hit 58. Field disturbance more telling than high point rub to distinguish AU from MS.

Lovely. The one thing I detest about ANACS is their soft holders. Breath on them and they scratch.

Mox, this is the first time I have ever submitted any coins to TPG. I did it more for authentication than anything else. But since my before photos are so poor I could I ever sell this coin now. It appears someone took a grinder to it. I guess I laid the slab on the carpet or something. There is so much difference in the two sets of photos it would make one wonder if it was the same coin.

They are the same coin, there is a die chip on the cheek in both obverse photos along with the same nicks on the neck/upper chest. There is also a hairline scratch in the right field seen on both coins. I am not seeing all the hairlines in the first set of photos which seem to be highlighted in the second set of photos. Hard to say what is on the coin and what is on the slab.

I am thinking AU-58 from those pictures.

Looks like a lower grade MS coin that spent time in a Dansco album, from the slide marks on the obv, still a bunch of luster, so technically it's AU, however a lot of times you can find more worn coins in low-end MS holders, I'd rather have a nice, problem free, just light rub or "cabinet friction" high end AU over a low end MS one with lots of nicks and scuffs in common gold coins, especially in the Liberty Head series.

It looks like a slider, especially the first set of images. The second set of images appear to show light hairlines. I hope ANACS didn't put it in an AU Details holder. I'd say AU58.
