I am working on my 7070 and need to put an ASE in the slot. Does anytone have a tip on how to get an uncirculated ASE out of the plastic holder it came in from the Mint without damaging the coin?

Thanks

The plastic capsule comes right apart, look at the edge and slip a small screwdriver in the crack and give a twist, it should pop right open. I have been able to open them with my finigernail. The crack is right at the edge (top or bottom)

Agree with Jim. I just took my ASE proofs out of their mint capsules and placed them into Ait-tites and an Air-tite album. I noticed that a large percentage of the government capsules were not sealed (pressed together) very well. On those, you could pop them open rather easily with just your finger nails, carefully, of course!

On this same note, I also have a couple of ASE proofs from the late 80's that have a nice toning started around the rims. These coins were always kept in the OGP. For those that don't care for toning and have coins in the original capsules, you may want to take them out of the boxes and make sure the capsules are pressed together tightly.

Eaglefoot, I would suggest this: First put on an apron. Then put on some cotten gloves. Now break open that case! If the coin slips out of the case, and you don't catch it with your hand, spread your legs. It will fall on the apron, (if you are sitting). If standing, forget the apron, the ASE is gonna hit the deck!

....livingdinosaur.......Ha Ha

And don't forget the "mask" so that droplets of moisture from your breath do not land on the ASE and make it "spotted" and forever marked.

Actually, It would be best to do this "operation" in a 'padded room' (no pun intended!..Ha Ha) and wearing a "bio chem" suit!.....so if a fluke accident happens and it flies "up".....the ceiling is protected.....if it hits the floor ....you're good.....to the sides....all covered!.....
